Online reviews suggest the Orkide branch provides better care. One Westerner reported a successful hip replacement in 2020 for $4,000 and was walking after three days. Their Facebook page indicates they perform surgeries.

Update: I visited and had a very negative experience. Read the review here.

Update: emailed for a price list but never replied.

Second update: sent another query via whatsapp, also no reply.

Soviet Hospital

Known to be a basic and affordable option. Some expats report limited services but low costs.

Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital

Mixed reviews: a single report of a good orthopedic surgeon, but other feedback is mostly negative.

Update: it was actually recommended to me by the doctor attached to the clinic that did my MRI, however, I wasn’t impressed. Read the full review of Cho Ray Hospital in Phnom Pehn.

Royal Hospital Phnom Pehn

I emailed for the price and it will only be given after a consultation of up to eighty USD.

I do have some other expereince of this place. I know a Scottish guy who fell off a bike and hurt his leg. He was fully insured and had the certificate with him but they demanded 1000 usd up front as deposit and when he didn’t have the cash, left him in the car park. – Not recommended.

Chenda Polyclinic

Chenda Polyclinic Website
Offers a range of medical services.

Update: I reached out via their online form but received no response.

Duong Bunn Clinic

Building 15, Street 55, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

[email protected]

012 377 499 – This is a telegram number.

This place was mentioned online by an expat, in response to a query about hip replacement, although I have no idea if they could actually do so.

Email query sent.

Duong Bunn facebook page

Update: they replied to the email that hip replacement is possible. I visited in person. Read the full review of Duong Bunn Clinic in Phnom Pehn.

Another place mentioned as in reference to replacement was Intercare hospital. I had a poor experience here during covid trying to get a vaccine (deceptive pricing) but online someone mentioned they have a good surgeon and an MRI available.

Intercare hospital entrance in Phnom Pehn

Update on Intercare Hospital in Phnom Pehn. — So I reached out via Telegram asking the price of an MRI and if they can perform the hip surgery I need. I got an immediate reply that someone was going to check and got back to me. A month later no body did, and so I sent numerous follow up messages but received no reply.

About two weeks later I visited in person. The front of house staff were two women, and the one I spoke with have passable English but struggled to understand my simple query. I wanted the price of an MRI and to know if hip surgery (replacement) was possible. She couldn’t understand. I mentioned I’d already asked on Telegram but the message was now deleted. She checked and they denied having ever deleted any message. So she suggested I ask again so the question is written in English and then she will phone up for the answer.

I had to wait a long time, perhaps twenty minutes. The lobby was small and not particularly pleasant to be in. Eventually she got a call. The MRI price is 350 usd, will take 3 days, and a compulsory consultation is 80usd, total 430usd. This is the highest quote I received anywhere, and ironically the most disorganised. She didn’t know if hip replacement was possible, but said someone would contact me.

I left and about 20 minutes later I got a telegram message that the surgery wasn’t possible as they are not able to obtain implants in Cambodia.

Conclusion: Intercare Hospital in Phnom Pehn is overpriced nonsense and best avoided.

I did actually visit Calmette to get the prices also, and you can read about it and see pictures with the link below.

My Experience of Calmette Hospital, Phnom Pehn

Another place I emailed was the Japanese hospital, and they replied the same day with very comprehensive information, although out of my price range. Read the correspondence below:

Khema International Hospital in Phnom Pehn

The entrance to Khema International Hospital in Phnom Pehn

+855 99 667 066 This is a telegram number @erkhema

I remember contacting Khema for an MRI years ago and they were very rude on the phone. I’ve reached out again and will update.

I next contacted Khema by Telegram to ask the price of Doppler ultrasound. They replied with a price of 40usd and a ‘consult and nurse’ charge of 35usd. Presumably that includes admin of the scan and so would be compulsory. I was pretty impressed by the communication as I had to go back and forth a few times and they were quick to answer.

A few months later I went with a query about MRI prices. This was much worse. There were two non-English speaking women front of house. They couldn’t understand what I was asking, and brought another lady who also didn’t speak English and made a call to one more non-English speaker.

I showed them the question via a translate app and all I could get was ‘see doctor’. So, there was no way to get the information without seeing a doctor and paying I presume. I was led to a low, soft sofa that was not possible to sit on for a long period. I endured it for 20 minutes and left without the information.

Conclusion on Khema International Clinic in Phnom Pehn: mixed experiences and not sure if they are recommended.

Employing/finding Carer Staff in Phnom Pehn

If I end up proceeding here I have some contacts, but it might be a good idea to employ someone to be safe. This is a collections of job boards and groups to find and employ carer staff.

bongthom.com – way too expensive

https://www.camhr.com – Possible, but I cannot see any carer roles listed.

www.Khmer24.com This is very good and well known amoung expats. Not just for job posting but also finding accomodation, actually the best place for room for rent type affairs.
