Roomchang Dental Clinic began in 1996 as a single-chair practice in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It has since expanded into a 10-story hospital with over 40 dental chairs and multiple surgical theaters. The clinic also operates branches at Rose Condo, AEON Mall Sen Sok City, and PH Euro Park. It has an in-house digital dental laboratory and employs staff trained internationally. Services are provided in Khmer, English, Japanese, Chinese, and Malay. The facility holds an ISO 9001:2015 certification and offers free dental care and oral health education to some communities in Cambodia.
When I first came to Phnom Pehn (a decade ago) this was the main place everyone talked about, and much of what made it a decent place is still applicable. The location of the main branch was convenient for me. Staff are good to deal with. There are clear prices on the webiste. There are dentist profiles on the website.
It seemed to have fell out of favour in recent years, although most of the online complaints are specifically about the Sensok branch, although I went there recently and at least the front of house staff seemed OK to me.
I was last there about ten years ago. They Xrayed me and told me I need three exterior fillings and both old fillings replaced. I took a second opinion there and the second dentist agreed. I had a previous dentist in Bangkok who had imaging and could show me damage and I decided to leave it.
I went to a different place in Bangkok a few months later. I saw a consultant who said the old fillings are OK and I need just one external filling, which I got for a much cheaper quote than Roomchang.
I did have one visit inbetween these two where I had pain and a dentist looked and said it was a temporary infection, nothing needed, and it did indeed clear up.
So fast forward ten years later, there is a little sensitivity. My friend was having dental issues and Roomchang had quoted him 800 dollars for a root canal, and he got a second opinion from Ang Duong Hospital (located at the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Street 118). They agreed and did the work for 60. So I went with him, but their price for an xray and check was the same as roomchang, and their treatment room was communal (at Aug Duong), so I decided to go to Roomchang.
I asked for a full Xray but was given two bitewings for 16usd. He have me an examination and said all is good, don’t press too hard when brushing. That’s it.
So it’s kind of OK here, but there is one issue, which is a deal breaker for me to be honest, but I’ve been here three times now and each time I’ve been examined, it starts with a dentist and a nurse, and once it starts, there are young, female teenagers walking around, in and out of the room, leaning over you and staring very close to your face. It’s insane. Three times I’ve been there and three times I’ve had to stop the examination mid-way through and order the stray teenage girl out of the room. It really is an odd setup, to have this consistently happen in a place which is otherwise so professional.
