A Review of Hoan My Hospital, HCMC (Saigon) Vietnam
I decided to check this place out because it was recommended as a place that can do a hip operation by a person who worked there. They essentially said it will be cheaper than FV but interpreter will be needed.
They were not wrong. I tried emailing them but it was ignored. It was actually the first place I tried. When I got there it was pretty much deserted, like a ghost town really, perhaps three other people in these huge waiting rooms.
There was some kind of a receptionist and a cashier. All front of house staff were female and none spoke English. I asked my questions via a translation app and was led to the cashier who wrote the prices down: Around three million dong for an MRI. 500000 for the doctor.
I tried to explain further my complications and was led to the ward. This was a smallish room with around twelve people in plastic cots. Some of them looked like they were dying. It was dim and depressing in there. At the end of the ward there was a line of tables with various staff in white coats there. The whole place was very cramped, the beds close together and the doctors’ tables touching.
Only one of them spoke English. I asked if the MRI file could be on usb, how long it would take and if a report in English would be included. He said an hour, and yes to the other two.
I ended up getting all the MRI stuff I needed at Careplus for a cheaper price than this, and in Careplus, all staff spoke English and it was cheaper, with a far nicer environment.
It was so difficult to communicate I forgot to ask the price of a hip replacement, or if it’s even possible.
In conclusion, my personal opinion is that Hoan My was difficult for foreigners to use, not particularly friendly and a gloomy environment. It’s not especially cheap. For these reasons I’ve ruled it out and will not visit again. YMMV.
